Common questions

Do you do actual research, or just visuals?

Both, and the research scales to the budget. At minimum that means understanding who uses the product and what they are trying to finish, because designing for an imagined user is how a beautiful product fails. Where budget allows we run interviews and usability testing on prototypes. We will tell you honestly when research would not change the outcome and the money is better spent building.

Can you work within our existing brand guidelines?

Yes, and we prefer it. Brand consistency across your site, product and materials is worth more than any single screen looking novel. If you have no guidelines we can establish the minimum - type scale, colour tokens with contrast checked, spacing - so the next person to touch it has rules to follow.

What do we receive - just Figma files?

Figma files, and more usefully a design system rather than a set of pictures: named components, tokens for colour, spacing and type, and the states that get forgotten - empty, loading, error, and what a long name does to the layout. A design that only shows the ideal case moves the hard decisions to the engineer, who then makes them alone and inconsistently.

Do you design and build, or hand off to our developers?

Either. Handing off to your team works well when the design system is real and the states are specified, which is why we produce those. When we build it ourselves the loop is tighter, because the person who hits an awkward edge case can resolve it with the designer the same day.
